Count containers, then count lids
Five matching containers make sense for repeated lunch portions or a regular meal-prep routine. Mixed sizes make sense for the different leftovers a week produces: a little sauce, a side of rice or the remaining soup. Choose the arrangement that solves the storage problem you already have.
Plastic and glass create different handling habits
Rubbermaid identifies the Brilliance containers as Tritan plastic with a latched seal. Pyrex uses tempered glass bases and plastic lids. Plastic avoids the weight and breakability of a glass base; glass gives you a nonporous container but requires care around impacts and abrupt temperature changes.
Check the condition of the lid and seal before transport. Follow the manufacturer instructions for filling, closing, heating, and carrying each container.
The lid has its own instructions
Both brands list dishwasher, freezer and microwave uses subject to their instructions. Read the guidance for both the base and lid. A lid being suitable for one warming routine does not imply it can be locked onto hot food in every situation, or used in an oven.
The Rubbermaid plastic container is not an oven baking dish. Pyrex storage is also a product with specific use and care limits; do not transfer assumptions from another Pyrex line. Leave the base and lid enough time to cool or warm as the instructions require, and replace damaged parts rather than forcing a poor fit.
Our fit-based recommendation
Choose Rubbermaid when matching 3.2-cup portions and a latched closure are the features you want. Choose the Pyrex set when you want glass bases and a range of capacities. Lay out the cupboard space first: a large mixed set is only convenient if you can find its lids without dismantling a stack.
Buying storage does not change how long cooked food keeps. Label leftovers with the date and use an appropriate refrigeration routine. Compare package contents, materials, and the stated care rules alongside the sizes you need for your leftovers.
