A zester should match the direction you work
The selected Microplane is the black Premium Classic 46020, a narrow rasp with a soft-touch handle. OXO 11215400 pairs a non-slip handle with a non-slip foot. Microplane also has end tabs to protect a resting surface. These features describe possible holding arrangements, without proving which handle will suit your hand.
Control the zest before chasing speed
For citrus, the useful ingredient is the colored outer peel. Turn the fruit frequently so you do not keep grating the same patch into the paler layer underneath. A slow pass gives you an opportunity to see what the teeth removed. A sharper-sounding product description does not replace that visual check.
A narrow rasp is convenient when a dish needs a little zest at the end. For a baking recipe that specifies a measured amount, grate into a separate vessel first. That keeps the quantity visible and makes it easier to keep juice, seeds and stray peel pieces out of a bowl of dry ingredients.
Think about the texture beyond citrus
Both manufacturers describe uses that include hard cheese and ginger. Fine shavings work differently from thick shreds, so a fine rasp is not a replacement for every face of a box grater. Consider whether you want cheese that disappears into a sauce or larger pieces that remain distinct on a finished salad.
Ginger can collect around a grating surface, especially as the remaining piece gets small. Stop before fingertips approach the teeth and follow the maker's cleaning guidance. Repeatedly forcing the last fragment through is a poor reason to pick one brand over another. Neither published specification tells us how much usable ginger a particular hand will recover.
Make cleaning and storage part of the choice
Both selected products include protective covers. Store the rasp covered so the teeth are less exposed when someone reaches into a drawer. Let it dry before putting it away. OXO explicitly lists dishwasher compatibility; check Microplane's instructions for the selected tool and its cover rather than assuming every component shares one cleaning method.
Microplane fits a cook who specifically wants the familiar narrow Premium Classic format. OXO fits someone who values its documented foot and snap-on cover. If your current grater already produces the texture you want without awkward handling, neither feature list establishes a need to replace it.
